Dr. Herman Grütter (Ph.D., P. Geo.) has 32 years of experience in the diamond industry and is a recognized expert in assessing the development and economic potential of kimberlite provinces. After 12 early-career years with De Beers in South Africa and Canada, he spent 4 years with Mineral Services Canada and consulted on diamond projects from around the globe. For six years prior to the sale of the Ekati diamond mine in 2013, he was Commodity Specialist (Diamonds) for BHP Billiton. During this time, BHP and joint venture partners completed first-order assessment of 300+ new kimberlite discoveries in Angola, Botswana, Sierra Leone, Mauritania, northern Australia and numerous East Arctic projects in Canada. Dr. Grutter led the resource-development team at the Chidliak diamond project that De Beers Canada acquired for C$107 million cash in September 2018. He has been a member of SRK Canada’s Diamond Consulting Group for 5 years and is a key contributor to due diligence and techno-economic studies on diamond projects and other commodities. He received a B.Sc. (Hons.) in Geology from the University of Cape Town in 1986 and a Ph. D. in Geology from the University of Cambridge in 1993.
